With the game tied in the fourth quarter, a pair of Foothill Club seniors showed Damien the way and put themselves into the CIF Championship game for the first time since 2004. Seniors Eric Osterberg and Johnny Beal combined for seven goals, including Damien’s final three to break an 8-8 tie, as Damien defeated Palos Verdes 11-9 yesterday in Irvine. Next up for the Spartan’s is top-seeded Laguna Beach Saturday in the Division 3 title game at 5pm at the Woollett Aquatics Center, where they will look to win the second CIF Championship in school history.
Despite a valient comeback attempt in the second game of the double header, Los Osos fell to top-seeded Royal in a Division 4 semifinal game. Los Osos rallied multiple times in the game to tie the game in the second, and then cut the five goal lead to two in the fourth before falling 17-12.
In the nightcap between two schools with mulitple club players, La Serna held off a last second attack to defeat Bonita in a Division 5 semifinal. La Serna will now play in its 8th Championship game, the first since 2004, against 4th-seeded Pasadena Poly at 11:40am at the Woollett Aquatics Center with a chance to win the programs first title.
